I love my cats. I do not know what I would do without them in my life, and I can’t believe I never had any other cats before these two. (Other than the two when I was little, but those are not good examples.) That being said, I have a few gripes.
- My cats both have their claws. This was a personal choice that Daniel and I made because de-clawing is cruel and inhumane torture, and it is illegal in all countries except ours. (Stepping down from soapbox now.) We knew when we made the decision to keep their little fingers intact, that we would suffer the consequences. Thankfully, my dad made them a fabulous cat tree:

This has helped to keep them away from the furniture. But, when they want in a room or when the wild gets in them, why must they literally climb the walls? Our brand new house has so many scratches and holes in the paint now. All we can do is make sure that we have their nails trimmed on a regular basis.
- Maggie loves to bite plastic. Just the other day, my mom emailed me to ask why there are little holes in her shower curtain, and I had to out Maggie for her plastic obsession. We have to keep the door to our guest bathroom closed so that the shower curtain will stay bite-mark-free. She also loves to chew on cardboard and any thick paper. She loves to get a hold of my business card/bookmark and take off running before I can get it back from her. And don't get me started on what she likes to pull out of the bathroom trash can and bat around the house...
- Buddha is a very loving cat… especially at 5am. This is when he decides to show his love for his mom and dad. He stands on Daniel’s chest and rubs his head all over Daniel’s (sleeping) head, then he comes and lies on my pillow and wraps around my head while kneading my scalp. This hurts if he hasn’t had his nails trimmed in a while, and it hurts when he steps on my hair. It’s nice when he finally gets comfortable though, and he lies down and purrs on my head. Very soothing, until the alarm goes off in 5 minutes…
- Why does Maggie miss her litter box sometimes? We have followed so many of the rules to combat this behavior problem. The boxes are cleaned out daily, and the litter is changed quite often. We have 3 litter boxes because I read that in multiple-cat households, there should be one more box than there are cats. We do not use overly scented litter because I have heard that some cats won’t use the box if they can’t smell their scent in it. We had her checked out to see if it was a medical problem, but she checked out to be just fine. My next step is going to be to buy (3) of the big Rubbermaid storage containers with the high sides that will hopefully be higher than her booty.
That’s all I have for now. I am sure there will be more complaints in the future. Like any parent, I would not trade them for the world, but there are always things about them that annoy me, and I need to vent. However, when Buddha purrs in my ear while he’s loving on me, and when Maggie does this every night:

it makes all of the “bad” things very forgivable and forgettable.
