We're sorry.
Dear Mom and Dad,
We wanted to write and say that we are sorry about yesterday. It must have been a result of the fumes that we were forced to inhale for over 4 hours while the oven cleaned itself. When Dad came in the door carrying the grocery bags, Maggie thought it would be a perfect opportunity to get a head-start on our supervised outdoor playtime. She didn’t know that you weren’t planning on going outside right away. Once she realized that no one was coming to play with her, she got nervous, and just started running. She heard you calling her across the street, but she thought that maybe you wanted to play hide-and-seek. She’s sorry that you scraped up your legs climbing through all of those briars in the woods across the street looking for her. I guess that Dad is better at hide-and-seek since he spotted her underneath the neighbor’s deck. Boy did she run fast to the garage door when she saw his face though! See, we always come back home, Mom!
I’m also sorry about the way I behaved when you let me outside after Maggie’s great escape. It was just so freeing being out there without Maggie! I didn’t know what a great running surface the street pavement could be. You know, it’s partially Dad’s fault that I ran away from you, Mom. Why did he spray me with the hose? I’m sorry that I didn’t listen when you told me to stop running though. Once I got close enough to smell that big dumpster across the street, I just had to check it out. I’m also sorry that I hissed and spit at both of you… again. I just really don’t like it when you make me come back inside!
Please don’t let our behavior yesterday affect your decision to let us go outside anymore. We will try our best to stay in the yard where you can see us from now on. (Or until we see that bunny across the street.)
Hugs and kisses,
Buddha and Maggie
