We're sorry.

Dear Mom and Dad,

We wanted to write and say that we are sorry about yesterday. It must have been a result of the fumes that we were forced to inhale for over 4 hours while the oven cleaned itself. When Dad came in the door carrying the grocery bags, Maggie thought it would be a perfect opportunity to get a head-start on our supervised outdoor playtime. She didn’t know that you weren’t planning on going outside right away. Once she realized that no one was coming to play with her, she got nervous, and just started running. She heard you calling her across the street, but she thought that maybe you wanted to play hide-and-seek. She’s sorry that you scraped up your legs climbing through all of those briars in the woods across the street looking for her. I guess that Dad is better at hide-and-seek since he spotted her underneath the neighbor’s deck. Boy did she run fast to the garage door when she saw his face though! See, we always come back home, Mom!

I’m also sorry about the way I behaved when you let me outside after Maggie’s great escape. It was just so freeing being out there without Maggie! I didn’t know what a great running surface the street pavement could be. You know, it’s partially Dad’s fault that I ran away from you, Mom. Why did he spray me with the hose? I’m sorry that I didn’t listen when you told me to stop running though. Once I got close enough to smell that big dumpster across the street, I just had to check it out. I’m also sorry that I hissed and spit at both of you… again. I just really don’t like it when you make me come back inside!

Please don’t let our behavior yesterday affect your decision to let us go outside anymore. We will try our best to stay in the yard where you can see us from now on. (Or until we see that bunny across the street.)

Hugs and kisses,
Buddha and Maggie

Does it bother anybody else when...

the toe seam of your sock always makes it's way between the top of your pinky toe and your shoe? Or is it just me?

what's hAPPening...

Okay, first off, Singing Pigs has some crazy cryptic post about changing her website, but she can't tell you why unless you email her. Luckily, I have her email address at school, so you would think that I could get the scoop. But noooooo, she can't email about it from work, so now I am just beside myself wondering what happened. I have an email into cousineddie also, so we'll see what comes of that... Update: cousineddie has given me the scoop if anyone wants to know what's going on. You know where to email me...

In other news, Appalachian is going to kick some Georgia Southern BOOTY tomorrow at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Allison and I will be there to cheer the mighty mountaineers to their victory, and we scored cheap tickets! (Thanks Alisa!) On the way up the mountain, Allison and I are going to stop by my Uncle Tom's daughter's vacation home to visit mom, dad, and friends. Then we're headed to the shroom for some pizza and pumpkin beer. mmmmmmm......

Sunday, Andrea and I are meeting to watch the Panthers game while poor Daniel has to work at a conference all afternoon. (What genius scheduled a conference on a SUNDAY?!)

Please don't beat the sand dunes.

I have a small gripe to discuss with my fellow beach-lovers. Since we had to park in "public parking" at the beach Sunday, Daniel and I were surrounded by a good number of beach-goers. (And it was high tide when we got there, so there wasn't too much beach area to share.) We walked a while to get away from the majority of the crowd, but it wasn't long before a family of 5 plopped all of their beach gear down next to us, and the 3 children proceeded to take a large metal shovel to dig a hole the size of my car right next to my beach towel. I was okay with this, I was relaxing on the beach with my hubby and a Miller Lite, I wasn't going to let a little flying sand bother me. I simply moved my towel to the other side of Daniel's chair, and continued to enjoy my time in the warm sunshine. Well, a little while later, the happy cloud I was floating on came crashing down to the sound of one of our neighboring boys using the giant shovel as a machete to break off the sea oats on the dunes! I looked around quickly to see where his parents were and why they were allowing such illegal behavior to take place, but they were down in the surf with the other two children. I watched, helplessly, as the sea oats were being murdered one by one, and the innocent dunes were being attacked by this horrible boy. Finally, I stood up, and told the boy that what he was doing was against the law and that the dunes were there to protect the houses behind them, and that he was destroying them. Thankfully, he stopped, but I became the mean old lady on the beach once his family returned and he told them all of the awful things I said to him. His mother even had the nerve to take one of his murdered sea oats and put it on top of the pile of excavated sand like a flag of rebellion! These people clearly do not know the "rules" of the beach that say to STAY OFF THE DUNES.

It's a beautiful life, It's just as advertised

Well, we're back. Daniel and I had a GREAT weekend. We went to Charleston Saturday afternoon, and headed to The Windjammer for a quick bite to eat before the show started. As we bellied up to the bar, who would be sitting there having a beer? Edwin McCain! Daniel kept telling me to go up and talk to him, but I just couldn't get up the nerve, so instead, I sat at the bar about 15 feet away from him and ate half of my grilled cheese sandwich. (I was too excited about the upcoming show to finish it all!) We tried to not pay for the show since we were already there before they started charging for tickets, but the bouncer made us go buy tickets. Boo. That's okay though, it was for a good cause (hurricane Katrina). Edwin's set was awesome, and then Cowboy Mouth was SOOOOO GOOOOOOOD!!! Many of my friends got phone calls and voice mails from me that night since no one was able to join us. I hope that some of you were at least able to tell what songs I was sending you! It was soooo loud there! Daniel and I were both deaf all day Sunday and Monday. Sunday, we accidentally slept in until noon, but we high-tailed it out of there to the beach, and we stayed at the beach until the sun went down. The weather was absolutely PERFECT. Lots of sunshine and mid-upper-80s. We were somewhat happy that when we left Sunday morning, the sky was overcast and drizzly- made it easier to leave. And because we were traveling on a Monday, and because of my mad driving skillz, we made it home in 3 1/2 hours! (Google maps estimated almost 6 hours!) So, we were able to wind down, go grocery shopping, and do laundry yesterday, that was nice. And, at least it is already Tuesday in our work week!

I'm excited about this coming weekend! Allison and I are headed up to Boone for the ASU/Georgia Southern game, and my cousin Mallory might meet us up there too. AND the Wooly Worm festival will be going on in Banner Elk that day! So much to do, so little time!

Cause I love to lay here lazy. We could close the curtains, Pretend that there's no work outside.

I get a long weekend!!! Daniel and I are headed down to Charleston tomorrow to see Cowboy Mouth play at The Windjammer Saturday night (with Edwin McCain) and Sunday night (with Hootie and the Blowfish)! And I will be spending part of Saturday, and all day Sunday ON THE BEACH for the last time before the stooopid winter gets here. AND we are taking the day off Monday. Isn't Daniel just the best? He felt sorry for me when all of my September plans went down the drain, and he suggested that we take this trip to make up for all of that.

I will bring my camera and hopefully get lots of good picutres to share. Thanks for kitty-sitting Allison! You're the best! =D

And One, And Two, And- Buddha! MOVE!

In college, I worked out religiously every day. Monica and I were good competition and motivation for each other in keeping up with our rigorous fitness schedule. When I did my workout routine in our room, I would take up practically the whole floor since we lived in a dorm room, but there was never a problem of not having enough room. Even when Monica and I worked out at the same time, it was a squeeze, but we had just enough room for both of us. Well, I slacked off once Daniel and I met, and it’s been a loooooong while since my last "real" workout. Daniel joined a gym this week though, so I now have the motivation to return to my physical fitness regime. Yesterday was my first day on my new program, and I learned that there is only so much room to workout when your have cats.

It took me a while to get going, because I had to make sure I had everything I needed- towel, weights, water… Once I got started, I noticed that Buddha was peering around the door looking at me with one eye and standing up on his toes like he was ready to run if need be. He finally got up enough nerve, and crept into the room with me and he proceeded to rub all over my head while I was on my side doing leg lifts. This may not sound like a problem, but when there’s a 15 pound cat throwing his entire body weight into your head while you are trying to keep your balance, it is a bit difficult. Then, Buddha proceeds to walk around me and stand under the leg that was being lifted and lowered per Jane Fonda's instructions. I had to bump him on the rump a couple of times before he finally got the hint and moved along. He returned several times during the 45-minute-long workout to test my balance and strength some more. Maggie also roamed in and out of the room, but only to sniff my head to make sure I was still me.

Cats are so funny when you change their well-known regular routine- neither one of mine were comfortable with me doing this strange and different thing in the house, and did not understand why I was not adhering to the daily schedule that they are used to following. I am curious to see how they will react when I do it again today. Eventually, it will (hopefully) become part of their everyday routine and Buddha will leave me alone.

Doomed

Some of you may be familiar with my sister's blog and her story of The Sink. Or, perhaps you read about her Port-A-Potty accident, or the one about the coconut. There are many things she has done, or things that have happened to her for no good reason whatsoever. Some people are just very accident prone. So, when I saw this on nataliedee.com, (Thanks for the link Stacey!), I had to share it. This is my sister, Pigs:

It's PERFECT. Right down to the roller skates- (ask her how she chipped her tooth!).

Child's Play

We went to Madison last weekend to visit Daniel's family, and his brother Ben told us a cute story about his girlfriend. When she was little, when her parents had friends over to visit, Carrie would climb up on the couch, put her hands on the guest's back, and say, "Would you like a back rub?". Pretty cute, right? Ben asked if there were any things like that that I did when I was a child. And, yes, there was something... When I was little, I would run into a room with my little arms up and muscles flexed as hard as I could, and yell, "This monkey's got BIIIIIG muscles!" and then run back out of the room. I was a strange little kid.
Carrie thought that her parents trained her to dole out free back rubs, and I know that my dad taught me my silly trick. Did anybody else have something their parents taught them to do when they were little to entertain guests?
