Lamar's has the best french fries EVER. I hear the fried chicken is pretty good too.

So, yes, I've been slack again about posting. Sorry!! Our trip to Chattanooga was GREAT. Daniel, Shane, and I got there late Wednesday night and stayed up for a few hours talking to Ben and Carrie. The boys went to play golf Thursday morning, and Carrie had to work, so I stayed home and enjoyed the lovely outdoor 2nd floor balcony with a book and my ipod. The Tallahassee crew arrived early that afternoon, and Barbara dropped off Ian then headed to Knoxville. That night, the boys went to the baseball game while Carrie and I ran errands and went by her office. We also took Willie to the park across the street from their house and played on the swings!! Daniel, Shane, Ian, and I went to Mellow Mushroom on Friday for lunch and to see Ben hard at work. There was a great debate over pizza and subs about whether the Chattanooga Ducks tour actually goes into the water during the tour. This mystery was not solved until the next day... Later that afternoon, we walked downtown for Nightfall to listen to live music. After that, we walked to Lamar's, which has become a tradition when visiting Ben and Carrie. (I was shocked to see they have a website!!) When going to Lamar's for drinks, it is necessary to understand that when you order one drink, you are actually getting 3 drinks in one, so you really must take it easy there. (Even Jeff and Tracy would consider them to be strong!) We went to the park with Willie again after Lamar's, and there were children out there with us (after midnight?!). (Luckily, Ian didn't go up and hit on them when we thought it was a bunch of girls his age having a party...) Saturday morning, Daniel, Ian, and I went to the aquarium on the river. It was HUGE. So much to look at, and I took about 100 pictures. While we were there, family started arriving at Ben and Carrie's house for the big bbq. They came from all over - Knoxville, Madison, Saluda... The cookout was a big success with lots of storytelling and family fun. And good food!! Then Sunday came, and we were sad to leave.
Daniel left this morning for his annual golf trip. He'll be gone until Sunday. I'm going to Greenville, SC for lunch Saturday to see Crystal and finally meet her sweet baby girl! Then Allison and I are going to hit the town here that night. Woo! Next week is only a 4-day week and Daniel and I are beach-bound!!

Earlier today, my boss was walking around showing everyone an old calendar that had pictures of county employees taken way back in the day. He showed me his picture, and all of my other co-workers who have been working here forever. All of the men had heads full of dark hair, and the women had hair waaaay up high in the air. Then I saw the year of the calendar- 1978. Boss man was none too pleased when I said, "Hey! That's the year I was born!" So now I am happy to report that I will be okay with turning 30 this year. I'm still a spring chicken around here! (Also? I was born on a Saturday.)

nom nom nom nom nom

These are the super yummy chips I had at the Tryon BBQ festival Saturday. I pretty much ate the WHOLE THING and a hot dog. They were the best chips EVER. Shane, Heidi, Abram, Daniel, and I met David in Tryon for the festival. We had chairs and a blanket, and we only got rained on a little here and there. Otherwise, it was a perfect afternoon! On the way home, Daniel, David, and I tried to stop at Longnecks which is Marshall, NC's brand new, first ever BAR. But they were closed- at 10pm! I'll give them a break since the liquor law was just passed for Marshall. We headed home instead and we all crashed. On Sunday, Daniel and David tried to save a little bird's life. It was sad. :( Poor little thing had a broken wing we think. It let them both hold it, and feed it, and move it to a safe place. (Daniel's mom was afraid they were going to contract bird flu.) Then we had some yummy food for lunch, and headed home for a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Daniel and I are going to Chattanooga after work tomorrow for a loooong weekend with Ben and Carrie!!! They are having their annual family cookout on Saturday, so everyone will be coming up for that too. Even the Tallahassee crew!

Until then, I am doing data entry at work because we got new software, and the 2009 tax bills haven't been entered in the system yet. And bills go out on July 11th!! So I should really get back to work now.

Poor Soldier Boy :(

He just posted this bulletin on his myspace:

Well this is the easiest way for me to tell everyone how I'm doing in the little time I have...I made the move out to this craphole called a "base". This place is a joke! It's like we are living in the stone age...I figured that we invaded this place how many years ago, and we can't get some technology here. WTF? Besides all that it smells of chickenshit and turtles for some reason? I get that there are chicken farms in the area, but turtles?!? I just want to let everyone know that I'm still doing good over here, and only 6 1/2-7 months left! I cannot wait to be out of here. Oh and I really hate desktops I just realized. I got used to using a laptop for the time I've been here and now I feel like I'm an old person now...You know how you give your grandparents those remotes with the giant buttons? That's how I feel now. Wow, that was way off topic. Anywho can't wait to see everyone again, send me emails and I will try to communicate as much as possible. Thanks for everything everyone.
Sincerely,
ME

Poor guy. At least he's keeping his sense of humor about it all. Hopefully I'll be able to get a box ready asap to send him in the next week or so. Send him happy thoughts!

(Sorry for the language, Mom. He's a soldier- that's what they do.)

Some Things and Stuff

Hello Blog World! I just wrote up half a blog and added a video from Flickr, then I got an error report, and all was lost. SO. Hate Blogger right now, but will work through it. It's been a while since I last posted. Let's catch up on my latest adventures, shall we?
When I last wrote, we were headed to Greensboro for the weekend. My parents finally had the cookout that they've talked about having for years now. I guess Mother Nature got the email, because she showed up right on time in the form of a MAJOR HAIL STORM. (This is where said video would be inserted if Blogger wasn't so stupid.) Instead, here is the aftermath, and there are videos if you would like browse around.
HAIL (After Heath and John cleared a path through it to get to the beer.)
For the 5 geography geeks who were at the party, it was a GREAT storm and we were all about it. However, for poor Mama Bonk who is not a fan of thunder, it was notsogood. After all of the excitement, the party was much fun. Cornhole was a bust since the ground was so wet, but John and Emily brought ladder/redneck golf, and us kids had fun with that.
Last weekend, Jeff and Tracy came to visit us. We were going to go to Carowinds on Saturday, but since it was 226 degrees outside, we decided against it. Instead, we went to Bo's in Lenoir for some indoor fun. We played video games, air hockey, and pool, and it was good times indeed. (And Tracy and I reprimanded the bartender for not having any Appalachian paraphernalia. Hello?! They are an hour away from Boone!) That night we cooked out and watched a movie. On Sunday, even though it heated up to 239 degrees, Daniel went and played 27 holes of golf while I stayed home and enjoyed the comforts of my air-conditioned house.
Send happy thoughts to Katie who is driving from South Carolina to Oregon as I write this. They stopped in Nebraska last night at their halfway point. She's moving out there just 'cause, and I know she's going to be great there! Send Soldier Boy happy thoughts as he is moving this weekend to the cruddy place in Iraq where they have limited access to phone and internet. And I'm not real sure about the running water/plumbing situation there, but I've heard it's not great. If you would like to get a box together to send him, or help add things to my next box for him, let me know and I can send you his address. He is so very appreciative of anything he gets over there!
